Latin and Greek Roots: Teaching Vocabulary Using Hands-On Activities and Common Objects is similar to Marcia Henry’s book, Words, in that it focuses on Latin and Greek word roots. These lessons also include multi-sensory activities.
With this book of lessons and activities, students will master a comprehensive set of high-frequency root words. Forty complete lesson plans feature hands-on activities in which students discover a Latin or Greek root. For example, students use reading glasses to make print visible, draw an object that is invisible to them, and greet visitors in an effort to discover the meaning of the Latin root, vis (to see).
Within the discovery section of the lessons, the teacher engages in an ongoing dialogue with the students to purposefully guide them through the discovery process. Writing activities reinforce new vocabulary and help students extend their use of the Latin and Greek roots. The pre/posttest is included to document student progress.
