Walker High is a typical high school. The students of Walker attend classes, participate in sports and drama, cram for exams, and go on field trips. Topics are involving and pertinent to young adult readers: romance, sports, friendship, exams, work, and family but with a twist of mystery. In just 48-pages, even your struggling readers can easily finish these novels!
TEACHER’S RESOURCE GUIDES (each book has it’s own teacher’s guide)
The Teacher’s Resource Guides provide over 100 activities and reproducible worksheets to support the books and extend students’ reading skills. Each is 8½ ” x 11” and 16-pages. A key at the end of each guide provides answers and sample responses. The activities give lower-level readers the tools to construct, extend, and examine the meaning of text.
LEARNING ACTIVITIES INCLUDE:
- Vocabulary skills include decoding words, using words correctly, understanding meanings, and extending the amount of words known.
- Identifying details and facts and recognizing aspects of literal text, such as sequence of events or main ideas.
- The reader must distinguish between and compare separate concepts in a text to extend its meaning.
- Personal reflection and response requires readers to connect information from the text with their own general background and knowledge.
- Demonstrating a critical stance requires readers to detach themselves from the text in order to consider and evaluate it.
